Northern Successes

The inspiration behind celebrating northern successes, came from youth around northern Saskatchewan at a networking event where they talked about being tired of seeing only negative things in the news about northern Saskatchewan communities. The idea to “celebrate” northern successes was about more than just positive news; it became a theme of cooperation, resilience, community and connecting people. The youth wanted other communities, other northerners, other youth and the province of Saskatchewan to see what they were proud of in their community

Originally, this was going to be an in person event, but Covid-19 and the pandemic had other ideas. We held our first Northern Successes Showcase in June 2021, with 60 nominations across northern Saskatchewan. The Embracing Life leadership team had decided to honor all 60 nominees, as they were amazing bright stars in communities working diligently to continue to do good work at tough times.

Northern Successes Showcase will be an annual event that takes place in the Spring to recognize the positive and impactful work taking place in northern Saskatchewan by residents, community and northern agencies.

Below is the awards and criteria for the 2022 Northern Successes Showcase:

    Grief Sharing Circles

Embracing life has invested with its partners in training northern people and youth to deal with Grief and loss at the community level. This was a two prong approach; first it was with intention to train northern professionals involved in front line work, as well as young people who work with youth to add tools to their tool belts when youth are dealing with grief and loss. This approach allows people to work in a holistic perspective as the community sees fit, and gives more tools to natural supports for youth, as well as northern communities.
